Finally recced you on my journal (was trying to come up with the words without giving anything away -- not sure if I succeeded :P). Anyway, it might sound over the top, but I really did love this. I already liked Carmen, but you've realized her maximum potential here and I treasure it. You really nailed the characterizations, the voices. I like that I got a feel for Uncle Michael as well; it makes Carmen's world richer and more real without being too intrusive or out of place in the story. The epistolary format works so well, too, letting the story unfold organically as the reader discovers what's going on. It really gives the story its punch, IMO. Was the story always that way, or did you think of it later? Anyway, I loved it completely. :)
